Georgia State Indemnification Program
Today we're joined by Marcellina Scott who will speak about the Georgia State Indemnification Program. The Georgia Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) administers this program which recognizes there are hazards inherent in certain public occupations that put employees at a higher risk of injury. It provides a financial benefit from two indemnification funds for designated public officers and public-school personnel who are disabled or killed in the line of duty. We want to make Georgia’s eligible public entities aware of this important benefit.
We also want to alert you of a legislative matter that may impact your entity. House Bill 1128, with an effective date of 7/1/2026, updates Georgia law regarding notices to public safety officers who may qualify for benefits from the Georgia State Indemnification fund. It also provides a short application window during which employees/former employees, or their legal guardians, can apply for benefits for certain prior injuries.
